Music/Discipleship Minister

 Job Description for Associate Pastor

Purpose:

To assist in in the mission of Arbor Drive Community Church in York, Nebraska - “helping people know God and grow in spiritual maturity through knowing and being satisfied in Jesus Christ” - by serving the body under the direction of the Senior Pastor and elders with special emphasis given to the teaching, equipping and shepherding of members with a special emphasis on evangelism, discipleship and counseling. This does not start out as an elder position though the expectation is that the man hired becomes an elder within 2 years of taking the position. 


Qualifications: 

  • Must meet the moral qualifications laid out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7

  • Must have competencies commiserate with the job requirements listed below, particularly a strong counseling and evangelism gifting and ability. 

  • Must be in agreement with the doctrinal statement of Arbor Drive Community Church

  • Must be reformed in doctrine 

  • Must agree to live within a 20 mile radius of York

Oversight:

The associate pastor will be overseen and supervised by the Senior Pastor and accountable to the board of elders.

Salary/Benefits:

Salary will be determined on the basis of qualifications, experience and need. Annual vacation time is 3 weeks/year over the first 4 years and then afterwards increases to 4 weeks/year. Vacation leave needs to be approved in advance by the board of elders. All federal holidays will be off. One week paid sick leave per year will be given. Unused sick leave can accumulate up to 2 weeks. Health insurance and housing are not included in this position. There will be a ministry expense amount given for this position every year along with opportunities for continuing education/development. Parsonage is available and able to be discussed as an option for the right candidate. 


Responsibilities:

General

  • Become a member of Arbor Drive Community Church and submit to leadership, be knowledgeable of scriptures along with the doctrine and core values of Arbor Drive Community Church

  • Maintain a clear testimony of faith and lifestyle consistent with a follower of Jesus Christ. Maintain moral qualification as well as personal Christian growth. 

  • Maintain a healthy devotional and prayer life. 

  • Maintain a healthy home life in marriage and children if married. 

  • Develop meaningful relationships with people within Arbor Drive Community Church and pursue fellowship outside of church activities and gatherings. 

  • Assist in shepherding/counseling needs within the church under the direction of the Sr. Pastor.  

  • Attend elder meetings as required. Communicate with the staff and implement planning under the direction of the Senior Pastor. Communicate regularly and clearly with the Senior Pastor, asking questions, seeking guidance, and contributing ideas and feedback. 

  • Provide a written report at the annual meeting and a verbal report at the semi-annual meeting

  • Pursue growth through continuing education and theological study with a special emphasis in evangelism and counseling.  

  • Submit monthly report to elders in writing prior to the elder meeting as directed by Senior Pastor. 

  • Expected to be in the office 4-5 days a week

  • Become an elder within 2 years of starting position.


Pastoral

  • Assist the elders in general shepherding needs of members. 

  • Special focus on discipleship, evangelism and counseling. Work with the Senior Pastor to provide spiritual guidance, support, and counseling to members of the church

  • Preach 8-10 times a year. 

  • Assist in teaching as needed (Adult Sunday School, Book Discussions, Youth Sunday School, Etc…). 

  • Develop curriculum in conjunction with the Senior Pastor for youth Sunday School. Recruit and train teachers. 

  • Oversee and coordinate children’s Sunday School including recruiting/training teachers, selecting curriculum, coordinating schedule, and other duties related to Children’s Sunday School as needed.
