Home Worship Guide (5-24-2020)
Overview: This is a guide. It has been designed to help you and can be modified by you however you see fit. Especially for those with younger kids, it might be best to read through this in advance and use elements that will fit the attention span of your kids.
Main Point: Being a Christian means we are responsible to and for one another.
Read: Colossians 3:12-15
12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
Encouragement: The peace of Christ ruling in us displays itself through love for others, bearing each others burdens and being quick to forgive as we have been forgiven. If we love our Savior we will love those He came to save.
Thank God for this morning for the unique opportunity He has given you over the last two plus months to bear others burdens, to be patient, to show compassion, to be kind and gentle and meek. And let us realize that all those qualities are fruits of the Spirit in us... and that is a visible manifestation of His grace in your life.
What a wonderful gracious God He is.
Prayer:
Spend some time praying for the following
Pray that God would bless your time with him
Pray that God would open your heart and enlarge your love for him
Pray that God would show you how he is calling you to respond
Devotion: Gal 6:1-5
Discussion Questions:
What is the biggest barrier to confronting sin in the lives of others?
What is the biggest barrier when you are confronted with sin?
How do you view you role in the lives of other believers at Arbor Drive? Do you see relationships with others as an essential element of your growth as well as the growth of others?
What keeps you from building new authentic Christian relationships? What has been the blessing of experiencing authentic Christian relationships?
What does it look like to confront sin with gentleness? What attitudes do you struggle with that get in the way of being gentle with others?
How have you been blessed by others bearing your burdens with you? What are some ways you might grow in bearing the burdens of others?
When you examine your own life, where do you see growth? Where do you see you need to grow? How seriously do you take the fact that you will give an account before God for your life?
Application:
Confronting sin in the right way is an act of love and God’s grace therefore, gently and lovingly come along side brothers and sisters when you see them fall into sin (Matt 18:15-20; James 5:19-20)
Bearing one another’s burdens fulfills the law of Christ therefore, ask God to show you ways to come along side brothers and sisters and for the strength and wisdom to bear their burdens with them (Romans 15:1; Gal 5:14; Phil 2:4)
One day we will all give an account for our lives (thoughts, motives and actions), therefore, seek by God’s grace to live every moment in a way that reflects God’s worth and priorities. (1 Cor 3:8-14; 1 Cor 4:5; Romans 14:12)
Respond in Song: Grace Greater (Consider discussing how the words of this song connect with the truths you saw in the text after singing).
Respond in Prayer (Pray specifically for an increased boldness in confronting sin, willingness to bear burdens and wisdom to set God-honoring priorities)
